Building Portfolios

Kristin is working on building her portfolio. We had a great time exploring Fisher Park in downtown Greensboro and creating some beautiful images. For being somewhat of a rookie, she really knocked it out of the park!

I also photographed her at a hair show that was held in Greensboro recently, here are a couple of her frames from that shoot.

Create & Connect

I sometimes go through little seasons where I feel a bit of a disconnect to photography. I'm not sure if it's the pressure that can come along with it or just feeling like you get lost in shooting what's expected of you rather than the way you love. I've realized over the past week or so that as an artist or a photographer, we shouldn't have to feel like we're compromising our art we should photograph what we love and how we love to portray it.

I realized that it's ok to break the rules. It isn't always about a perfectly sharp image. Blurry images with beautiful light and feeling are just as good. Not getting wrapped up in technicality all the time is ok. And that's hard to comprehend but mood over technicality makes sense sometimes!

Last week inspiration hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere. I was so thankful for it and thankful that I had a model that I've been working with that I could call and get this shoot off the ground. I wanted to shoot on the land behind my house. I live out in the country and the piece of land behind my house is very rural with a couple of barns and random pieces of farm equipment.

Kristin was on board and we were able to get out in the field and produce some beautiful images. She is working on building her portfolio, so I knew she'd be perfect for this shoot. Plus she had the gorgeous gown she'd been wanting to use.

This shoot had a lot of me being overly excited (which is nothing out of the norm), doing the running man in the field, jumping, yelling fabulous and just being joyful and feeling connected to the art of photography again.

Kristin looks like a goddess in these images, the light was golden and wonderful and really the scenery was perfect.

Create and connect to the art of whatever it is you do find your love for your passion again. Do the running man, yell how excited you are about something.

Shoot for yourself, express yourself in the way you feel necessary. Be you.

Meet The Rush Family

I had so much fun spending the afternoon with the Rush family! It is so refreshing to spend time with a family that has so much fun together and isn't afraid to let loose and have a good laugh! We started out at their home and Ermon surprised me with pretty much the best prop EVER his gorgeous Harley Davidson. I knew we had to get a few images on his beautiful bike. Then we headed off to the park and I enjoyed observing, and snapping photos while Heather, Ermon and Landri played together. This is the most fun I've had during a family portrait session in a while! Thank you Rush family for letting me spend the afternoon with you!

I get by with a little help from my friends.

It's a beautiful thing when the majority of people in your life are creatives. I happen to be extremely fortunate to be surrounded by friends & coworkers that are out of this world talented! When we are lucky enough to come together outside of work and put our talents together it is what makes me happiest (besides being at the beach).

Today I worked with a few of the talented ladies in my life. Kristin, one of my co workers and friends is working on building her modeling portfolio. We set out with several different looks in mind and started the day with good music, laughs and coffee! Candace rocked some beautiful hair and make up for this shoot and I couldn't be more grateful to have worked with her.

One of my former classmates was my assistant for the day and Cassie was a rockstar! She came wearing ballet flats and carried a vagabond in a back pack and a strobe with a beauty dish in a creek for me (don't worry, we were EXTREMELY careful!). Cassie is the best light stand I've ever had!

Nothing makes me more thankful than to be able to collaborate with such talented, great friends. I took some behind the scenes photos today when hair and make up were being done and of the rest of the crew. I can't wait to get to work on these photos, I'm really excited about the imagery.

Enjoy these tid bits from our shoot for now! Thanks for reading!
